Travel during the pandemic

Affinidi Travel is a team dedicated to enable global cross-border travels again during and post-pandemic through verifiable health credentials. The pilot started with a verifier app Unifier, which was designed to enable immigration and airline staff to securely and efficiently check travelers’ test reports and vaccination certificates.

How might we

help to resume cross-border travel by providing trust and efficiency

One of the key measurements for staff at check-in counter and custom officers is how long it takes to check in one passenger.
During the pandemic, the time taken has significantly increased because the complicated entry rules by different destinations.

Insights

Speed is key

Being able to see the results of document check quickly is one of the key motivation for airlines customers to adopt the product, and they measure time taken to check in per passenger at the counter.

Navigate through the changing requirements

Without using Unifier, staff at check-in counter need to go through printed pages of entry requirement of each country manually. If the documents are not kept up-to-date, airlines face fine when letting travelers not compliant with requirements on board.

UI design

Not met entry requirement: Staff need to identify that traveler hasn't met requirement at a glance and the reason.
Here is the usecase with connecting flights, and different requirements for each flight destination.

Solving for pre-departure planning

Through the pilot, we also gained deeper understanding of travelers’ needs. We found out that travelers find the entry requirements very confusing, and they are anxious about if they could successfully board the plane.
I designed CommonCheck, where travelers get pre-departure health documents verification, directly sent to destination authority. Then the authority can issue entry approval, enhancing efficiency at airport and offering travelers piece of mind.
